  • Mix one part vinegar, two parts water, and one part essential oil of your choice to create a spray that will permeate a room quickly.

  • Mix equal parts borax and lavender oil to create a scented spray for the living room. You can also use it for spring cleaning or any other job that requires freshening up certain areas of the house.

  • You can add 20 drops of lemon oil in 2 ounces of vodka for DIY aromatherapy candles with a really strong scent. You can make a great one by adding citrus essential oil to your vodka and then light it with a candle.

  • Fill an empty spray bottle with water, add 10 drops of lavender oil, 20 drops of tea tree essential oil, and one-quarter teaspoon of cedarwood essential oil; seal the bottle and shake it until the oils are well dispersed throughout the water. Spray it around the house to make your home smell fresh.

– Lavender & Aloe Vera –

Add four tablespoons of aloe vera juice or gel plus one tablespoon of lavender extract into a saucepan with two teaspoons vegetable glycerin and one teaspoon honey.

Soak about 20-40 cotton balls in this mixture and then light them up.

This will refresh the air within your home in no time.

– Vanilla Orchid –

To repel pests and create a nice scent, add four drops of vanilla orchid essence to a quart of water. Put this into a spray bottle, close it up and shake well before using it inside the house.

– Apple Cider Vinegar –

Mix one cup of apple cider vinegar, one teaspoon glycerin and two teaspoons of cinnamon oil into a spray bottle and shake well. Spray this on carpets, floors and upholstery to absorb bad smells.

Win the battle against bad smells by combating them with baking soda. Sprinkle baking soda all over carpets, rugs and any other surfaces you want to deodorize. You can even sprinkle some on your cat litter box for a fresh smelling space for your feline to use.

– Basil Oil –

Take several basil leaves and boil them in one cup of water until they become very soft. Now strain the leaves through a coffee filter and add one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to it.

Keep it in a bottle for up to three days as a DIY air freshener.

– Lemongrass –

Add two cups of cut lemongrass (chopped or torn) into a saucepan with four cups of water. Boil this on medium heat for about 15 minutes. Take the cooked lemongrass out and add a teaspoon of glycerin to the pot.

Let it cool, then strain it through a coffee filter and use it as an air freshener spray.

– Cinnamon –

Mix two teaspoons of lemon juice and two teaspoons of cinnamon powder into one cup of water. Spray this on curtains, upholstery and other fabrics to get rid of stale smells. In addition, you can also add some cinnamon to your cat’s litter box to help keep your home smelling fresh.

Note: If you have pets in your home and/or cook a lot, chances are that you have a rather unpleasant smell in the air. You could be experiencing musty smells from cooking or simply just not smelling very nice because of all the sweat building up in your houses walls.

Whatever the case may be, it is time for you to do something about it before the problem gets worse. These tips should help you freshen up the air of your home.

To get rid of the musty smell, it is best to use baking soda. Sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda all over your carpets, rugs and upholstery. You can also sprinkle some on your cat litter box for a fresher space for your feline to use.

For a fast-acting DIY air freshener: Mix equal parts of baking soda and borax into a spray bottle and spray the mixture over your carpets and upholstery. Let it sit for about 20 minutes before vacuuming it off.
